Bethlehem's Role
in the Birth of Jesus

Why does it matter where someone was born? Some of us may be proud of our hometowns, while some may feel a love-hate relationship. Our hometowns provide identity, and come to shape us in our later lives. Whatever it is, where we come from impacts us one way or another.

This Christmas, let’s take a closer look at Jesus’ birthplace and hometown. He was born in Bethlehem but grew up in Nazareth, after his family escaped to Egypt and returned. Knowing the significance of Jesus’ childhood and background will help us go deeper into the Bible and in our relationship with God.

We also speak to three Malaysian pastors on how their hometowns have shaped their lives and ministries. When we reflect on our background and origins, we can better understand God’s big picture for humanity, for our personal lives and how He prepares us to respond to His calling.
