Founding Pastor, SIBKL
Petaling Jaya, Selangor
In my 30 years of leadership as the Senior Pastor of SIBKL, there were times when I faced strong challenges to my leadership. These included disappointments and setbacks that happened rather unexpectedly. At such times, I certainly struggled to keep the tangible sense of God’s presence. But here’s how I overcame the challenges and feelings of doubt:
First, I maintained my daily routine of quiet time with God. There was no let up on this discipline. Then, I continued to worship, pray, and read the Word of God as I would do everyday. As I did that, strength would return to me. As my spirit man was strengthened, faith increased. I kept doing this to seek God’s wisdom and clarity of thought as to how to proceed.
I also sought counsel from mature, godly people whom I respect and honour. I was resolute in my desire to keep my spirit up and my heart right before God as I navigated through the crisis.
As I continued in this, over time, God would guide me and give me the wisdom and courage to do what is right and righteous before Him without fear or favour of man.
God will vindicate me. The outcome would be victorious. What the evil one means for evil, God will turn it around for good. In Psalms 61:1-3, David says: “Hear my cry O God, Listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you; I call as my heart grows faint, Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe.”
