The Christmas season reminds me of the profound truth that Jesus came to earth to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10) and to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). When I was young, I invited Jesus into my life, but my faith was inconsistent, like a yo-yo. I later realised that I had never been properly discipled.
After graduating from university and starting work as an engineer in a semi-government body, I became so busy that I had little time for church. Although my values had been shaped by the church during my youth, I had not truly integrated God’s Word into my daily life. I believed that if I worked hard, remained honest, and avoided corruption, success would follow naturally. My hope was to be promoted, earn a good salary, and eventually marry and buy a home, just like anyone else.
However, life took a harsh turn. I was investigated for corruption simply because I worked late to ensure timely payments to contractors, something uncommon in my field. Despite the investigation, nothing incriminating was found. Still, the experience was devastating. My ideals were shattered, and I became deeply disillusioned with life’s unfairness. I even contemplated ending my life, but the Lord intervened, and I began to recover.
Later, additional challenges in another job in the private sector led me into spiritual depression, where I couldn’t sleep even with medication. During one such period, I stayed at my brother’s house, where he saw my distress and prayed for me. That night, I slept peacefully. He took me to his church, and after a Sunday service, I responded to an invitation for prayer.
I cried out to God, “Lord, my life is shattered into a thousand pieces. Make something beautiful out of it.” From that point on, I developed a deep hunger for God’s Word. Jesus said, “…I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10b).
Over the years, my faith has matured, and I am grateful for God’s mercy and kindness. I know my relationship with Jesus will endure until I meet Him face to face. Glory to God in the highest for coming to save us and offering hope to fallen humanity!
