The Lord Does Not Abandon Us

By Lee Kha Loon

As a local church pastor, I’ve seen my fair share of joys and disappointments over the years.

2015, in particular, was a challenging year. I struggled with the people I served and the resources available. Different people had different commitment levels, everyone juggling family, work and ministry.

But Christmas that year was particularly special, too. We had a group of orphans from Klang join our Christmas service, and their presence and presentation to the packed congregation that morning lifted everyone’s hearts and spirits.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt, it’s to keep my eyes focused on Jesus. I trust that He is my shepherd and this is His church. Daily devotions also helped me to bring my feelings and challenges to God and be comforted by Him.

Secondly, I fellowship with like-minded pastors on a monthly basis to encourage one another. I also learnt to accept criticism and share my struggles with more matured members to seek prayer and support. That year, the youth ministry also blossomed and was a tremendous blessing to the church and community.

If you’re feeling discouraged, know that we all experience it at various points in our journey. But the Lord has not abandoned us. We are doing His work, and He always delights in our faithfulness. This Christmas, I pray that our Father will bless churches throughout Malaysia as they proclaim the risen Saviour through songs, dance, sermons, and communal activities. Amen.
