Gereja Methodist Subang Jaya Subang Jaya, Selangor
When I was younger, I wanted to serve God as a missionary. But God surprised me with His plans and placed me in a church instead. In that church, we served the teenagers and young adults who came from other states to study in the Klang Valley.
Missionary work is when we bring God’s presence and His Word into people’s lives, crossing barriers of language and culture. Therefore we took the initiative to plant a BM outreach and preaching point in Banting, which reached out to East Malaysians working in Selangor.
Though the turnover rate was high, the baptism rate was highest among our missions portfolio! That’s because most of them eventually returned to their homelands. Despite that, we made sure to disciple them, so that they became our so-called missionaries to serve God back home.
To me, it’s not about how good I am or how good we are as a church. I only thank God that we had the opportunity to disciple others. That is a form of missions, and it is by His spirit that we could accomplish His work (Zechariah 4:6).
As believers who have received God’s grace, let’s be like the Sea of Galilee – full of life flowing out to bless and reach out to others too; and not be like the Dead Sea – only receiving blessings for ourselves. For “Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely.” (Psalm 112:5a)
