In 1993, I took a drug addict to a rehab centre. Two years later, that man, together with another ex-drug addict, reminded me of an idea to start a Christian rehabilitation centre. As I prayed, I knew that this was what I was supposed to do but struggled financially as the church income was barely enough to sustain our expenses. 

I kept this as a matter between myself and God. Shortly after, the two men shared their testimony at another church and their small group gave a RM250 offering. The men told me and I asked God what to do. He encouraged me with Romans 8:32, “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” 

My concern was no longer finances but how to win the lost for God. I then remembered a house in a small village that belonged to a relative. It was empty because it was supposedly haunted, so I was allowed to use it for free. I got a basic renovation quote for RM3,000 and I told the contractor to start “tomorrow” without letting him know I only had RM250.

Finally, the work was completed but still no money came in. I prayed and fasted. I told God, “I can’t put your name to shame” but didn’t mention to anyone about the need. This was a big challenge to my faith during that time. 

Not long after, one church member passed me an envelope. She said the money was for the rehab centre. I was very excited, expecting to see RM3,000 inside. When I opened the envelope, there was RM500 (I counted it many times). I was still short of RM2,500. 

But God’s way is higher than our ways. That same afternoon, someone from Johor Bahru gave RM2,500 – no more, no less. From then on we’ve seen God’s consistent supply to run the centre without ever having to ask for money, and we’ve seen many lives transformed. Waiting on God is never a futile exercise – He always provides and He is never late.
